Population - workers and non-workers with various ramifications has been presented in this volume, as also the employment situation in the State with all This volume has analysed indepth the population from Macro to Micro level of the Karnataka State. VOLUME II – Is entirely related to the population classified as “workers and non workers” (employed and unemployed). –hold census conducted has been presented in various chapters. Chapter which had accent on economy of the state as reflected by the house VOLUME I – Consists of chapters relating to the analysis of population,literacy, sex ratio, household survey results on the economic situation and so on. This Report was divided into two volumes as below :. The Government of India had sent a tentative outline and the census results have had to be presented in the report. He was requested in 1964 to prepare the ‘General Report’, with two colleagues who were also given someĬhapters.

Puttaswamaiah was then working as “Technical Head” of the Planning Department at the Government level. More recent books may be viewed in any St Pancras reading room, and books in Kannada published since 1945 are available for loan to libraries and other institutions through the Library's Document Supply Centre.Preparation of the Census General Reports :- While the 1961 census was conducted in Karnataka by the Government of India and the Tabulated Data published, The General Report of the Census of 1961 had not been prepared till 1964. Manuscripts and older books may be consulted in the Asian and African Studies Reading Room. Manuscripts are listed in the (unpublished) Catalogue of Oriental Manuscripts in the Asian and African Studies Reading Room.

This strength is complimented by archival material on Karnataka within the India Office Records. Our holdings of 19th and early to mid-20th century Kannada materials form a unique and important collection. The Library continues to acquire books and journals in the humanities and social sciences in Kannada and other languages of Karnataka. Early and modern printed books and periodicals The manuscripts collection includes items which came from the India Office Library, the Oriental Collections of the British Museum, and those acquired subsequently by the British Library. The collections include manuscripts on palm leaf, copper, stone and paper. Our holdings overall are an important resource for the study of South Asia. We have particularly important holdings of 19th to mid-20th century publications.
